Repartee (repartees) is a noun, defined as a conversation or speech characterized by quick, witty comments or replies.  A swift, witty reply, especially one that is amusing. light sparring with words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This a great word for the fabulous Word of the Week because the pronunciation is not what you might expect.  Your audience will surely be impressed when you pronounce it correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pronounced kind of like REP are TAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe had a quick mind and a splendid gift for repartee<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dorothy Parker<\/strong> August 22, 1893 \u2013 June 7, 1967) was a famous American poet, writer, critic, and satirist based in New York; she was best known for her wit<\/a>, wisecracks, and eye for 20th-century urban foibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a conflicted and unhappy childhood, Parker rose to acclaim, both for her literary works published in magazines, such as T<\/em><\/a>he New Yorker,<\/em> and as a founding member of the Algonquin Round Table. Following the breakup of the circle, Parker traveled to Hollywood to pursue screenwriting. Her successes there, including two Academy Award nominations, were curtailed when her involvement in left-wing politics resulted in her being placed on the Hollywood blacklist.
