Now here is a great word for the fabulous Word of the Week\u2026definitely a word you should have in your verbal arsenal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A euphemism is a noun defined as a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cdownsizing as a euphemism<\/strong> for cuts\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cpassing away as a euphemism<\/strong> for dying.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cActually, my mother didn\u2019t \u2018pass away.\u2019 She died. Something about that verb, \u2018to pass away\u2019 always sounds to me as if someone just drifted through the wallpaper. No, my mother did not pass away. She definitely died.\u201d <\/em>\u2013 Steve Allen<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is pronounced exactly as you think it should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the government, all governments, are experts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a special operation, not a war.\u201d  <\/em>Putin<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And how about “The Patriot Act”? Can you still be considered a patriot if you oppose the bill? (Ever feel like your being manipulated)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Euphemism is another great addition to the fabulous \u201cWord of the Week\u201d.  Proper use will make you appear intelligent but not pretentious.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have recently been doing my own personal research.  Among a group of friends there is one couple who has an alcoholic preference for red wine.  They both caught Covid.  One of them twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife\u2019s preference is gin.  She too caught Covid, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However I prefer whiskey as does another couple.   None of us have caught Covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
